In 1986, while Bon Jovi topped the charts and Halley's Comet streaked across the sky, a quiet revolution began in Georgetown, Kentucky. Zohari Cars is honored to mark a truly historic milestone: Toyota is celebrating 40 years of manufacturing in the U.S. by announcing a fresh $1 billion investment across its Kentucky and Indiana operations. This commitment isn't just about celebrating the past—it’s about accelerating toward an electrified future while ensuring that the "family favorites" American drivers love remain built right here at home.
The lion’s share of this investment—$800 million—is headed to Toyota Kentucky, the company’s largest manufacturing plant in the world. This funding is dedicated to preparing the facility for its second battery-electric vehicle (BEV), further solidifying Toyota’s "multi-pathway" approach to carbon neutrality. In addition to the EV expansion, the plant will see increased capacity for the assembly of the legendary Camry and RAV4, ensuring that Toyota can meet the relentless demand for its industry-leading hybrid and combustion models while training the next generation of the American workforce.
Meanwhile, Toyota Indiana will receive $200 million to increase production capacity for one of the brand's most popular new entries: the Grand Highlander. This investment allows the facility to keep pace with the massive popularity of this three-row SUV, assembling it alongside the Sienna minivan and the Lexus TX. Beyond the factory floor, Toyota is also investing $4.4 million in grants to support STEM education and manufacturing engineering programs in local schools. This ensures that the spirit of innovation—"Driven by People"—continues to flourish for the next forty years and beyond.
At Zohari Cars, we believe that the strength of an automotive brand is found in its connection to the communities where it builds. Toyota’s philosophy of "building where we sell" has created a value chain in the U.S. that spans nearly 70 years and 35 million vehicles. Seeing $1 billion poured back into the heartland of American manufacturing is a testament to the quality and passion of the 17,000+ team members in Kentucky and Indiana. We congratulate Toyota on four decades of excellence. Stay tuned as we go "On-Site" for a special retrospective on the 14 million vehicles that have called Kentucky home. The road ahead has never looked more promising.
