Tokyo, Japan — November 2025
Toyota has officially confirmed that the next-generation Hilux — one of the world’s toughest and best-selling pickup trucks — will go electric, but not fully. The all-new lineup will include battery-electric (BEV), diesel, and gasoline versions, proving Toyota’s “multi-path” approach to global electrification.
The announcement reinforces Toyota’s vision of giving customers choice, capability, and reliability, no matter their location or driving needs.

⚙️ Three Powertrains, One Global Legend
The Electric Hilux prototype — first shown in Thailand — will enter production in 2026, featuring dual electric motors, instant torque, and up to 240 miles of range on a single charge. Designed for commercial and personal use, it retains the Hilux’s rugged chassis and towing strength.
At the same time, Toyota confirmed that clean-diesel and gasoline engines will continue to power Hilux models in markets where EV infrastructure is limited, ensuring the pickup’s legendary global reach.
“We’re not replacing options — we’re expanding them,” said Yoshihiro Nakata, Toyota Asia Pacific President. “The Hilux Electric will serve customers ready for EVs, while diesel and gas models remain vital for others.”
🌍 Built for Every Terrain
-
Electric Hilux: Dual-motor AWD, 240-mile range, 0–60 mph in under 7 seconds
-
Diesel Variant: 2.8-liter turbo diesel with improved fuel economy
-
Gas Variant: 2.7-liter four-cylinder tuned for durability and lower emissions
Toyota engineers have tested the Hilux EV in extreme temperatures across Asia, Australia, and Africa — ensuring it performs as reliably in remote deserts as it does in modern cities.

🔋 The Future of Toyota Trucks
The Hilux Electric joins Toyota’s growing lineup of electrified pickups, including the Tacoma Hybrid and Tundra i-FORCE MAX, representing the brand’s evolution into clean, versatile performance.
With this announcement, Toyota solidifies its message: the future of trucks isn’t one-size-fits-all — it’s every powertrain, everywhere.
